hi all, i own a 2014 thunderbird, i am a bit dissapointed as i have removed the front crash bars to clean them. noticed the chrome is flaking off badly on the bottom mounting brackets, has anyone any idea how to remedy this, has anyone used chrome paint and is it any good. does anyone know a good chroming company in england if i have to get them rechromed. a bit dissapointed with the chrome as i feel it shouldnt be flaking so severely after 2 years.

John, I think you will find that he Chrome plating on the mounting brackets is where they have not been prepped as well and were most probably never fully coated as on the bars itself. Just give em a sand / buff back and maybe spray them initially with some "Cold Galvanising" or "Zink it" to stop any future rust prior to respraying them with some of the Liquid Chrome paint that you get from the Auto Shops

I have the same problem with my front chrome crash bars and also the front of the Triumph Chrome Line floor boards. Both have the flaking and some small rust spots but only on the front. I've tried some 000 steel wool to rub it off but it didn't work very well.

I don't know about the cost over there but here in the States it would be just about as cheap to buy a new set rather than have them re chromed.

thanks Mat and n2dwind for your replies. because the brackets are out of sight i gently sanded them down, spray painted them with zinc plate , then sprayed with chrome paint. i was more bothered about them rusting more than they already have . in time if they get any worse i will certainly see about rechroming them. thanks Mat for the address of the chromers you use. as im in Sunderland Mat, do you use A1 Triumph dealers for servicing as North East Triumph in Newcastle are no longer Triumph dealers.
